Technique Room

The Technique Room is a library where coaches curate YouTube instructional videos organized by move, position, or skill level. Collections can include technique demonstrations, training drills, and match analysis.

Coaches can add their own videos, including unlisted uploads, by pasting the link into MatViz. This allows you to build a team-specific curriculum without worrying about external video hosting.

Collections in your Technique Room can share videos from your library. When adding a video to a collection, use the "From library" tab in the Add-video dialog to select any video already in your library — YouTube links and club uploads alike. A video lives in your library once, and collections simply reference it, so you only need to upload or add a video one time to use it across multiple collections.

Add any YouTube video by pasting its URL directly into the Technique Room. MatViz checks each video when you add it — videos whose owners have disabled embedding are rejected with a clear message, since they can't play inside MatViz.

Creating unlisted videos: If you want to share private coaching footage without publishing it publicly, upload it to your YouTube channel and mark it as Unlisted. This keeps it out of public search but allows you to paste the link into MatViz.

MatViz includes a one-click import of a starter curriculum with four technique collections: stance and motion fundamentals, neutral takedowns, top rides and turns, and bottom escapes. When you import it, all videos are added to your Technique Room.

Fully editable:After importing, you can edit, remove, or reorganize any video in the collection. The starter curriculum can only be imported once per club; if you try again, you'll see a message indicating it's already been imported.

When writing a match review note, coaches can attach a technique video directly from the note composer. You can link a video from your Technique Room library and optionally specify a start time for quick reference to the relevant clip.

Who sees note links: Any member with permission to read match review notes can play the attached video chips. Note writing requires the Program plan or higher.

Coaches on the Program plan or higher can assign technique videos as homework to your club members. You can assign any collection from your Technique Room, or assign individual videos via the video card's "Assign as homework" action or by selecting "Specific videos" mode in the Assign dialog (up to 50 per assignment). Assignments target the whole club, a subgroup (such as varsity or JV), or individual wrestlers, and can include an optional due date and a note for context.

Snapshots: When you create an assignment, MatViz captures which videos are included at that moment. If you later edit or remove a video from the collection, the assignment stays unchanged — only new assignments will reflect the updated collection.

Members see their assigned videos on their member home (the "me" page) under "Assigned to you".

Verified watch tracking:Playback inside MatViz is measured. A video checks off automatically at about 90% watched and shows as verified in the coach grid. The "mark watched" button remains available so members can self-report progress the app didn't auto-verify and shows as self-reported. Partially-watched videos appear as a percent. Tracking measures playback, not attention.

As a coach, you can view a grid for each assignment showing which wrestlers have watched which videos in the assignment. A wrestler counts as done when they've marked every video in the assignment as watched. Wrestlers whose accounts aren't linked to the club yet appear greyed out in the grid until they connect their account from the People page. You can also archive assignments to hide them from members.

When you add a video, MatViz checks that it can be embedded. Videos that cannot be embedded are rejected at add time and never enter your collection. If a video's status changes on YouTube after you've added it, MatViz re-checks periodically and flags the change with a badge.

Two badges may appear: Unavailable means the video was deleted or made private. No embed means the video still exists on YouTube but the owner has disabled embedding, so it cannot play inside MatViz. In either case, the video remains in your collection so you can see it and replace or remove it.

School network caveat:Many school WiFi networks block YouTube access. If a student or coach is on school WiFi, they won't be able to watch videos in the Technique Room, even if the video is available.
